WHAT IS INVISALIGN?

If you have crooked or misaligned teeth, you may feel conscious about smiling, laughing and even talking in front of other people. This is a common issue that many people all over the world face, regardless of their gender or age. After all, it is hard to deny that a beautiful smile can really increase not just your aesthetic appearance, but also make you feel approachable and youthful.

At San Anselmo Family Dentistry, we understand the power of a beautiful smile. Both Dr. Rosemary Goldstein and Dr. Anthony Costella have been practicing dentistry for years, successfully treating patients with Invisalign, helping them achieve the smile of their dreams. We take the time to work closely with you so we can really understand your goals, your current dental condition and the steps it would take to bridge the gap between the two.

With state-of-the-art equipment, qualified and experienced dentists and a friendly staff that makes you feel right at home, San Anselmo Family Dentistry is the perfect place for you to correct your misaligned teeth using Invisalign.

Invisalign is a type of teeth aligner that is custom-made for the patient. As the name suggests, what makes Invisalign so unique is that unlike traditional aligners such as metal braces, it is invisible or transparent. A special plastic which is smooth, strong and clear is used to make the Invisalign aligner, which spans onto your teeth perfectly.

HOW DOES INVISALIGN WORK?

Using modern 3D printing technology, Invisalign aligners are custom-made especially for you, taking into consideration the current positions of your teeth and your desired positions. This means that your treatment plan will be tailor-made for you by your dentist with the aim of repositioning your misaligned teeth little by little.

When you approach San Anselmo Family Dentistry, you will have your teeth checked by either Dr. Goldstein or Dr. Costella. After thoroughly examining your dental condition, they will help you devise an Invisalign treatment plan, custom-made especially for you. Each Invisalign aligner in your plan will have to be changed after every two weeks for about six to eighteen months, depending on the severity of misalignment of your teeth.

INVISALIGN'S ALIGNING TECHNOLOGY

The idea is that each aligner is designed to help you gradually reposition your teeth. So, after you wear your first Invisalign for the first two weeks, you would have to switch to a new differently-shaped aligner because by then, your teeth would have changed positions. This will go on every two weeks until you achieve the correct teeth alignment as per your treatment plan. These aligners are made from impressions or molds of your teeth taken in the San Anselmo Family Dentistry clinic, which are then sent to the Invisalign office where the aligners are made.

Basically, Invisalign aligners work on the same principle as braces – controlled force. In other words, Invisalign aligners help to correct teeth misalignment by the strategic placement of controlled force on the teeth. However, what makes Invisalign even better than traditional braces is that in addition to placing controlled force, it also controls the timing of the application of the force. When each aligner is placed, only certain teeth will be moved. Each sequence of movement is carefully planned in advance by your dentist at the time of consultation, when your unique treatment plan is being drafted out.

What makes Invisalign so unique is that it is so easy to accommodate in your daily routine. You have to make very few changes as you can easily take them off while eating, drinking, brushing and/or flossing. This is a huge advantage that Invisalign has over traditional braces, which cannot be taken out, and can be damaged when chewing on something hard. Besides, it doesn’t affect your appearance in any way as they are almost completely invisible. No one will be able to tell that you are wearing aligners to correct your teeth alignment. Compared to traditional braces with their metal wires, which often drastically change not only your smile, but your entire appearance, Invisalign aligners are a great choice of treatment.

More than 4 million patients have been successfully treated with Invisalign, and the numbers keep growing everyday. At San Anselmo Family Dentistry, we make sure that every patient who comes to our clinic, looking for a solution to their misaligned teeth gets the best Invisalign treatment that is tailor-made especially for them.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF INVISALIGN?

It’s not difficult to see that Invisalign offers tons of benefits, which were previously not possible with traditional braces. Below, we take a look at some of the top benefits that Invisalign provides for patients like you:

  • Firstly, Invisalign aligners are practically transparent. They are made from a special thermoplastic material that is developed solely for Invisalign patients. This material is colorless, which means that when you wear your aligners, it will not make any difference to your appearance.
  • Invisalign aligners can be easily removed on your own unlike braces. So, you can just take them off before eating, drinking, brushing or flossing. This gives you better access to your teeth and gums so you don’t have to worry about dental hygiene.
  • Invisalign aligners are very comfortable to wear, especially when compared to your other option, which is, metal braces with wires. There is no restriction when it comes to the food you can eat or the activities you can engage in.
  • Invisalign aligners are stain-resistant. You don’t have to worry about any food or drink causing a stain on your aligners. You can have a beautiful smile even with your aligners on.

Anyone with misaligned, crowded, crooked teeth or that have a gap in between their teeth can benefit from Invisalign. Even if you have worn braces before, you can still be suitable candidate for Invisalign aligners. In fact, many people who have experienced shifting in their teeth after wearing braces have benefited from Invisalign aligners.
